Guest Speaker: Lesley Alves
Lesley Alves abandoned a career in tax accounting when she enrolled in the inaugural class of the Master of Arts in Public History at Monash University in 1988. Since then, Lesley has worked as a historian in a variety of situations including museums, a university and a government department, besides undertaking many commissioned projects, large and small. With no particular speciality in mind, apart from oral history, she took on projects covering a range of subject matter - industrial history, local history, native title, immigration, credit unions, a maternity hospital - the list goes on. Each one was a new learning experience. Lesley will reflect on the challenges and joys of her 30 year journey as a professional historian.
